It’s hard to believe that Summer is over and we are already in the middle of October. I hope you each enjoyed warm days, dinners with family & friends, and a little time relaxing!
Over the last couple months at St. Ann’s Community we have had more than a few opportunities to enjoy good food & great times. Whether it was at one of our barbecues, our famous Chili Cook-off, visiting vendors at our food truck rodeo, sampling craft beer & wine at the Tap & Vine Annual event or enjoying A Taste of St. Ann’s showcasing our culinary teams talents, we loved every minute & morsel!
I am always proud of our dedicated team and seeing the heart, creativity & passion they bring to our Residents & Patients every day. We are all unified in our commitment to making life better for our Most Important People On Earth. Recently we were honored and proud to be featured in the Wall Street Journal in an article highlighting the work that our clinical teams are doing with UR Medicine related to Antimicrobial Stewardship. The article discussed how Health officials and health-care executives, concerned by a rise in dangerous drug-resistant infections, have concentrated over the last few years on curbing misuse of antibiotics in hospitals and are now bringing that focus to nursing homes and the residents they serve.
St. Ann’s Medical Director, Diane Kane, M.D. has helped Dr. Ghinwa Dumyati, an infectious disease physician in the Center for Community Health at the University of Rochester Medical Center, lead the charge to reduce antibiotic overuse. A passionate critic of UTI over diagnosis, Dr. Kane said “the data Dr. Dumyati provided and her voice as an infectious disease specialist, have helped. The data was eye opening.”
We are happy that we could help support our partners at UR Medicine to advance education and practice in curbing antibiotic overuse. In my opinion the article certainly speaks volumes for the care our Residents & Patients receive at the bedside from our Clinical Team.
